Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor is pulling out all the stops for her upcoming film, ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi,’ directed by Sharan Sharma. In a candid reveal during a promotional event in Delhi, Janhvi shared the grueling details of her six-hour daily training regimen to transform into her character, Mahi, a doctor-turned-cricketer, opposite Rajkummar Rao.
With the film’s trailer already stirring excitement, Janhvi disclosed the extent of her dedication. “I wasn’t very radiant while shooting for this film,” she admitted. Balancing promotions for ‘Good Luck Jerry’ and shooting ‘Mili’, she was advised by director Sharan Sharma to shed weight and undergo cricket training. This marked the start of an intense journey under the guidance of coach Abhishek Nair.
“My training was more intense than what IPL players undergo,” Janhvi explained. Her regimen included daily sessions with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players, strength training, conditioning, cardio, and cricket practice, spanning five to six hours each day. She also adhered to a strict low-carb diet, leading to noticeable physical changes that even her other film directors commented on.
Despite facing challenges such as ligament injuries and multidirectional instability, Janhvi’s perseverance shone through. The behind-the-scenes clip released by the filmmakers highlights her transformation journey, featuring insights from director Sharan Sharma and her coaches.
Reflecting on her training, Janhvi expressed gratitude to her trainers on Instagram, saying, “The two years of training that went into this film was such a huge part of my routine and life – that no one saw. Thank you to my coaches Abhishek Nayar and Vikrant Yeligeti for everything!”
‘Mr & Mrs Mahi,’ produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, is set to hit theatres on May 31. This film marks Janhvi’s second collaboration with Sharan Sharma and reunites her with Rajkummar Rao after their successful pairing in ‘Roohi’.
