The show, which is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine, will follow the early years of Elle Woods, the beloved character from Legally Blonde, before she enters Harvard.
Reese Witherspoon, who originated the iconic role of Elle Woods in the 2001 film Legally Blonde and its 2003 sequel, made a special announcement via Instagram that Lexi Minetree will be playing the young Elle Woods in the series. You’re Elle Woods.”
The series, created by Laura Kittrell and Caroline Dries, will delve into Elle’s high school years, exploring the life experiences that shaped her into the confident and determined woman we know from the Legally Blonde films. Kittrell and Dries will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, along with Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Marc Platt.
Jason Moore, whose directorial debut Pitch Perfect was a massive hit, is excited to be working on the project. Moore, who has also directed films like Sisters (starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler) and Shotgun Wedding (starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel), brings his experience in comedy and heartfelt storytelling to the prequel.
Witherspoon expressed her enthusiasm for the show, noting how the prequel will offer fans a deeper look into Elle’s character, offering new layers to the story that fans of the franchise will love. The Elle prequel series is expected to debut on Prime Video soon, and fans are eager to see how the early years of Elle Woods unfold.
