Javed Akhtar praises Ajay Devgn's 'Maidaan'
After much anticipation, Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ has hit the theaters and has been met with favorable reviews.
The film, which showcases the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, has been lauded for its heartfelt storytelling and stirring performances, particularly by Ajay Devgn.
Javed Akhtar, the celebrated lyricist, took to social media to share his admiration for the film.
He praised the film’s portrayal of significant yet lesser-known national achievements, stating, “I watched ‘Maidaan’… It is a true story that will make every Indian proud of our certain national achievements that unfortunately most of us don’t know about. A must-watch. Congratulations to producer Boney Kapoor, director Amit Sharma, and to Ajay Devgan who has given a mind-blowing performance.”
‘Maidaan’, directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, not only delves into the golden era of Indian football under Rahim’s coaching but also features powerful performances from a stellar cast including Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh.
The film’s premiere saw a special screening in Mumbai attended by notable figures including Javed Akhtar and his wife, veteran actress Shabana Azmi, along with other celebrities like Sanya Malhotra, Boney Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Pooja Hegde, and Shubhash Ghai.
Despite setbacks such as the destruction of its set by Cyclone Tauktae in May 2021, ‘Maidaan’ was released in theatres on April 10, marking a significant moment for Indian cinema.
