Jeff Bezos’ Ex-Wife MacKenzie Scott Cuts Amazon Stake By $12.6 Billion

The move, aligning with her focus on diversity and equity, sees the value of her remaining Amazon shares drop to an estimated $12.6 billion.

October 22, 2025: MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has significantly reduced her holdings in the e-commerce giant, as revealed in a recent SEC filing dated September 30. Scott’s remaining stake in Amazon is now valued at approximately $12.6 billion.

Massive Stock Reduction

According to a report by Bloomberg, Scott now holds about 81.1 million Amazon shares. This represents a steep reduction of nearly 42% in her ownership compared to the previous year, a drop of approximately 58 million shares. This reduction comes despite the value of Amazon’s stock more than doubling since her 2019 divorce from Bezos. The SEC filing did not specify whether the reduction was due to direct sales, donations, or a combination of both. As per her divorce agreement, Jeff Bezos retains the voting rights over these shares and is required to report them annually.

Scott’s estimated net worth is now approximately $32 billion.

A Focus on Equity and Inclusion

Since receiving around 4% of Amazon’s stock in the divorce settlement, Scott has become one of the world’s most active philanthropists, pledging to give away the majority of her fortune. Over the past five years, she has distributed about $19 billion to over 2,000 nonprofit organizations, with a median gift size of about $5 million.

Her recent major donations have a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI):

  • $42 million grant to 10,000 Degrees, a Bay Area non-profit dedicated to helping low-income and primarily non-white students access and succeed in higher education.
  • $70 million gift to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) via the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), supporting a 2021 program aimed at strengthening financial stability for minority institutions.

Scott’s wide-ranging contributions also include:

  • $436 million for Habitat for Humanity.
  • $275 million for Planned Parenthood.
  • $84 million contribution to the Girl Scouts.
  • $20 million to Vermont’s Champlain Housing Trust.

Through her consistent and sizable philanthropic efforts, MacKenzie Scott continues to channel her enormous wealth into initiatives designed for long-term social impact.
