Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck Finalize Divorce Settlement, Brings End To Their Two-Year Marriage

January 7, 2025: After a brief two-year marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially settled the terms of their divorce, bringing a peaceful end to their relationship. The announcement, confirmed through court documents obtained by E! News on January 6, reveals that both parties have agreed on the terms of the divorce, marking a cordial conclusion to their union.

The couple had wed in a private Las Vegas ceremony in 2022, but after just two years, Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, citing their separation as occurring on April 26, 2024. The filing followed months of speculation about their relationship, fueled by Lopez’s solo appearances at public events, including the 2024 Met Gala.

As per the settlement, both Lopez and Affleck will retain the earnings they individually acquired during their time together, and neither party will be required to pay spousal support. Lopez, who had changed her name to “Affleck” after their marriage, will revert to using her maiden name, “Lopez.”

In an emotional interview with comedian Nikki Glaser, Lopez opened up about the difficult emotional toll of the breakup, describing how her “whole f–king world exploded” after the separation. “You have to be complete if you want something that’s more complete,” Lopez shared, reflecting on her personal growth during the challenging time. “You have to be good on your own. I thought I learned that, but I didn’t.”

Since the divorce, Lopez has chosen to focus on herself. She has made it clear that she is not actively seeking a new relationship, stating, “There’s no new bar because I’m not looking for anybody…What if I’m just free?” The cancellation of her tour and her time away from the public eye have allowed her to reconnect with her family and embrace personal growth.

Despite their split, Lopez and Affleck have maintained a cordial relationship, particularly for the sake of their children. In September 2024, the ex-couple was seen at a family gathering with their kids—Affleck’s children from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner: Seraphina and Samuel, and Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme. They also reunited for a family holiday meal in Los Angeles just before Christmas, sharing a meal at Soho House with family members.

Lopez reflected on the period following the divorce, describing it as one of the hardest times in her life but also one of the most rewarding. “I just needed to be with my kids and myself and really dig down deep into things that were happening in my life,” she said. “It was probably the hardest time of my life, but it was also the best time because I got to do that work on myself.”
