Jennifer Lopez Calls Her Role In ‘Kiss Of The Spider Woman’ “A Dream Come True” Moment

January 27, 2025: Jennifer Lopez recently expressed her excitement and joy about starring in Kiss of the Spider Woman, calling it a “dream come true” moment. The musical drama, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, is directed by Bill Condon, known for his work on critically acclaimed films like Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and Beauty and the Beast.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer shared how her love for musicals grew from her childhood, particularly influenced by her mother, who was a huge fan of musical legends like Barbra Streisand and Rita Moreno. She said, “This was meant for me. I have been waiting for this my whole life. I grew up on movie musicals… I thought I was gonna do Broadway.” Despite her unexpected career shifts, she’s grateful for how everything turned out and is overjoyed to finally live out this dream role.

Jennifer revealed how surreal it felt when she was approached for the lead role in Kiss of the Spider Woman. Her agent sent her the script, and after reading it, she immediately knew it was something special. She recalled the moment, saying, “After reading 30 pages or so, I called him up, and I was like, ‘Is this mine or is this something that I’m gonna have to meet with or have an audition for?’ He said Bill Condon wants you to do it. I was ecstatic.”

She also noted that while the role felt like it was “meant for her,” the closest feeling to it in her career was when she starred in Selena, although she was too young at the time to fully understand the significance of the opportunity.

The plot of Kiss of the Spider Woman is set primarily in an Argentinian prison during the Dirty War. It follows Luis Molina, a queer window dresser (played by Tonatiuh), who’s imprisoned for having a sexual relationship with a man. To escape the horrors of prison life, Molina tells his new cellmate, Valentin Arregui (played by Diego Luna), stories of his favorite film diva, Ingrid Luna.

This project marks a major milestone for Jennifer Lopez, as she embraces a role that aligns with her deep passion for Broadway and musical performances. Fans are excited to see her bring her incredible energy and talent to this powerful and evocative story.
