Jennifer Lopez turned heads at the 2025 American Music Awards in Las Vegas on Monday night with a bold, high-energy opening performance that had social media buzzing. The 55-year-old pop star kicked off the show with a medley that included a steamy moment where she kissed both her male and female backup dancers on stage.

The performance came shortly after Lopez’s public split from actor Ben Affleck and featured a slowed-down version of her 2012 hit Dance Again before transitioning into a high-octane mix of this year’s top hits, including Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us, Bad Bunny’s NUEVAYoL, and Billie Eilish’s Birds of a Feather.

Dressed in a sparkling, nude jumpsuit with her signature honey-blonde hair sleek and straight, Lopez’s dance medley took an unexpected turn as she shared passionate kisses with several dancers during Lose Control by Teddy Swims. She wrapped up her performance with a mash-up of Lamar’s Not Like Us and TV Off, in honor of the rapper’s multiple nominations.

The steamy kiss-off quickly became the most talked-about moment of the night, drawing comparisons to Madonna’s legendary on-stage kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. One fan tweeted, “JLo kissing a woman in the opening performance was not what I was expecting,” while another quipped, “Not JLo going Madonna on stage, kissing girls!”

Host Tiffany Haddish even got in on the fun, joking, “Save a dancer for me, J.Lo! You ain’t the only one that’s single,” while introducing the R&B song nominees.

Lopez’s appearance at the AMAs marked her second time as host, having first helmed the show in 2015. She’s no stranger to the AMAs stage, with more than 10 performances over the years.

Earlier this month, Lopez revealed she had suffered a facial injury during rehearsals for the show. Sharing images of her injury on Instagram, she later thanked plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond for stitching her up.

Her return to the AMAs stage comes just three months after finalizing her divorce from Ben Affleck in February. The couple, who married in July 2022, filed for divorce in August 2024.

Lopez’s bold performance—and her cheeky kisses—made for an unforgettable start to the AMAs, cementing her status as one of music’s most daring and captivating performers.
