Jessica Truong and Jack McEvoy Set to Star in Romantic Sci-Fi Drama ‘The Last Mermaid’

May 19, 2025: Actors Jessica Truong and Jack McEvoy are set to lead ‘The Last Mermaid’, a romantic drama infused with sci-fi elements, helmed by British filmmaker Coz Greenop.

The film, which recently wrapped production in Vietnam, is currently being shopped for international distribution at the Cannes Film Festival. Greenop, known for titles like The Last Heist, Dark Beacon, and House Red, also penned the screenplay and serves as a producer alongside Christina de la Sala (Tomorrow) and Donny Chen (Cookster: The Darkest Days). The film is a joint production between Mont Fort Films and Greenop’s Green 13 Films, with “substantial” support from the Vietnamese Film Commission.

The Last Mermaid follows the emotional journey of Aron (played by McEvoy), a young grieving writer who embarks on a soul-searching trip across Vietnam. There, he meets Linh (Truong), a mysterious woman carrying a deep, otherworldly secret that binds them in a haunting, transformative romance.

Reflecting on the experience, Greenop described the shoot as both stunning and demanding.“Shooting this film in Vietnam was simultaneously the most breathtakingly beautiful experience and the most physically taxing project I’ve ever completed,” he said. “Working with two actors like Jack and Jessica was a sheer pleasure.”Greenop previously earned critical acclaim for The Last Heist, which won him the Best Director Award at the Marbella International Film Festival.
