‘Jinguchaa’ Out Now: Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam Reunite After 37 Years for ‘Thug Life’

The first single ‘Jinguchaa’ from the much-awaited action drama Thug Life—composed by AR Rahman and written by Kamal Haasan—launches at a grand Chennai event. The film hits theatres on June 5.

Chennai, April 18: The first single from Thug Life, the highly anticipated gangster drama starring Kamal Haasan and directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam, was launched today at a glittering event in Chennai. Titled ‘Jinguchaa’, the song is composed by Oscar-winner AR Rahman, with evocative lyrics penned by Haasan himself.

Thug Life marks a landmark reunion between Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan, nearly 37 years after their iconic collaboration on Nayakan (1987). The film is co-written by the duo and features a massive star cast including Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Sanya Malhotra, and veteran actor Nassar.

The movie has been shot across various Indian and international locations—Chennai, New Delhi, Pondicherry, Kanchipuram, and Serbia—under the lens of ace cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran, with action sequences choreographed by the Anbariv duo.

Initially referred to as Kamal Haasan 234, the film’s official title Thug Life was announced in November 2023. Breaking with his long-standing tradition of naming films in Tamil, Ratnam has chosen an English title for the first time in his career.

Despite minor delays due to Haasan’s political commitments and an injury on set to Joju George, the film’s principal photography concluded in late 2024. A teaser featuring Silambarasan TR released last year has already built significant buzz.

Backed by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies, Thug Life is slated for a global theatrical release on June 5, 2025. With its stellar creative team and powerful cast, the film is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the year.
