John Cena Declares ‘I Love Vince’ Despite Backlash Over WWE Boss’s Controversy

May 16, 2025: Despite the storm of allegations against Vince McMahon, WWE’s former Executive Chairman, John Cena has shown no hesitation in expressing his deep loyalty to his former boss. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Cena made it clear that his admiration and respect for McMahon remain unwavering, even amidst the serious legal challenges McMahon faces.

McMahon was forced to step down from his role as WWE’s Executive Chairman in January 2024 following a lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant, which included serious allegations of sex trafficking and abuse. Despite the controversy surrounding McMahon, Cena has remained steadfast in his public support, recently reaffirming his loyalty during a candid conversation with The New York Times ahead of WrestleMania 41.

“I don’t care who hears it: I love Vince,” Cena declared, adding, “I’m not downplaying anything that needs to be decided or allegations of any kind, but when I love somebody, I love them wholeheartedly. I know people are going to be angry about that, but they can’t put their value on my relationship with somebody I love.”

When asked by Us Weekly if he was taken aback by the backlash his statement garnered from fans, Cena responded thoughtfully: “No, because everyone’s entitled to their opinion. Just like I am entitled to have an emotional connection to somebody. I don’t hold anybody to how they feel or what they view as permissible or things that make them happy, angry, excited, sad. That’s their right as a human being, I’m not surprised by any of that.”

McMahon, who remains a major stakeholder in TKO (which merged WWE and UFC), still holds around 4.06% of the company’s shares, despite his departure as Executive Chairman. In addition to Janel Grant’s lawsuit, McMahon faces further legal challenges related to allegations involving former WWE ring boys, and accusations that he was aware of abuse within the organization but failed to take action.

While McMahon’s legal woes continue to make headlines, Cena, who is currently the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion following his victory over Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, remains resolute in his public stance. The 16-time world champion continues to show no signs of wavering in his loyalty to McMahon, even amid the surrounding controversy.

In the world of professional wrestling, where loyalty often plays a critical role, Cena’s decision to publicly support McMahon has sparked debates among fans and industry insiders alike. Whether or not this will have any impact on Cena’s own standing in WWE remains to be seen, but for now, the “Doctor of Thuganomics” remains a steadfast ally of the man who helped launch his iconic career.
