Johnny Depp Feels He Was a ‘Crash Test Dummy for MeToo’, Felt Betrayed by His Inner Circle

June 22, 2025: Johnny Depp recently opened up in The Sunday Times, describing himself as a “crash test dummy for MeToo”, revealing how deeply the fallout from the Amber Heard trial affected him. He confessed, “It was before Harvey Weinstein. And I sponged it, took it all in,” sharing how he felt abandoned by industry figures—like a longtime agent—who “did him dirty,” questioning their loyalty.

Depp expressed disappointment that three close associates—once part of his personal life—stopped supporting him during the trial. “Those people were at my kids’ parties… I understand people… were afraid to make the right choice,” he told the paper.

Recalling the defamation verdict in June 2022, which cleared his name while Amber Heard won one of her counterclaims, Depp said the jury’s decision “gave me my life back” and allowed him closure for the sake of his children . He defended his recent Hollywood resurgence, saying he “never really left”—highlighting his work in Minamata, Jeanne du Barry, upcoming Day Drinker, and enduring commercial partnerships.

Depp’s candid reflections spotlight the emotional toll of the legal battle and raise questions about loyalty, trust, and the cultural impacts of the #MeToo movement.
