October 29, 2024: Exciting news for action cinema fans! Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz are reuniting for the thriller Day Drinker, directed by Marc Webb for Lionsgate. The film will debut at the American Film Market (AFM), where Lionsgate is launching international sales.
This project is particularly significant for Depp, marking a potential Hollywood comeback after the controversies surrounding his divorce from Amber Heard. While he has appeared in projects like the French film Jeanne du Barry and directed Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness, Day Drinker represents a more commercially focused venture.

The film features a gripping story about a cruise ship bartender who encounters a mysterious day drinker, leading them into the criminal underworld. Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson praised the film’s commercial concept and highlighted Depp and Cruz as perfect fits for their roles.
This marks the fourth collaboration between Depp and Cruz, following their work in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express. With Webb at the helm—known for 500 Days of Summer and the Amazing Spider-Man films—fans have much to look forward to.
The film is produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, alongside Adam Kolbrenner and Zach Dean, who penned the screenplay and has a strong background in the action genre. Lionsgate is also collaborating with 30WEST, which will serve as an executive producer.
