Jonathan Bailey Is Single—But Is Bridgerton Hurting His Love Life?
July 8, 2025: Jonathan Bailey, best known for his role in Netflix’s Bridgerton, has revealed that his on-screen romantic charm hasn’t translated into real-life dating success. In a recent interview with E! News, the actor declared, “I’m available,” but quickly added, “It’s just, I think there’s a genetic predisposition,” hinting at deeper complexities in his personal love life.
The 36-year-old star, who publicly came out as gay in 2018, admitted that starring in the hit period drama hasn’t helped him romantically. “It’s a fantasy, isn’t it?” Bailey said, explaining that the scripted romance of Bridgerton doesn’t reflect the grounded and real experiences of dating in the LGBTQ+ community.

While he hasn’t shared specific details about his dating life, Bailey has opened up about exploring future family possibilities. “I’m reading books on adoption. I might co-parent with a woman, but I’m thinking it will be with a man,” he previously told interviewers. For him, presence and authenticity seem more important than just romantic chemistry.
Jonathan Bailey also reflected on his journey as a gay man, recalling a difficult moment from school when he tried to come out to friends — only to be met with silence. Now, he prioritizes living openly. “I’d much prefer to hold my boyfriend’s hand in public or be able to put my own face picture on Tinder… than getting a part,” he said.
