May 11, 2025: Emmy-nominated actor Josh Charles is set to headline Best Medicine, a new hour-long comedy series from Fox, adapted from the acclaimed British show Doc Martin, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series will follow a successful Boston surgeon who leaves his high-powered job to become a general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent his childhood summers. Set to premiere during the 2025-26 TV season, Best Medicine puts an American twist on the much-loved UK format.

Fox Entertainment will fully own and produce the show through Fox Entertainment Studios. The project is being executive produced by Liz Tuccillo, along with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Rodney Ferrell of Propagate, and Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite, who served as executive producers on the original British series.

Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said, “The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality, and humor. With Best Medicine coming to Fox, that eccentricity gets a small-town America spin, complete with idyllic charm and absurdity.”
Silverman praised the casting of Charles, calling him “the perfect lead for this brilliantly character-driven comedic procedural.”
Best Medicine is officially Fox’s first scripted series order for the 2025-26 television season.
