January 27, 2025: Fans of the Frozen franchise will have to wait until 2027 for the highly anticipated third installment, Frozen 3. Josh Gad, who voices the beloved snowman Olaf, recently addressed the delay in an appearance on a podcast.
He explained that the extended wait is due to the film’s creators wanting to ensure the movie lives up to the legacy of the first Frozen film, released in 2013. Gad mentioned that while he’s excited about the project, he’s sworn to secrecy and can’t reveal many details, emphasizing that the team is focused on delivering a story that’s “worthy” of the years of anticipation.

“There’s a reason the movie is coming out in 2027. And that is because no one wants to rush this,” Gad said, adding, “They want this to not just be a sequel or a money grab. They want this to be absolutely worthy of the story we set out to make in 2013.”
Though he couldn’t divulge specifics, Gad teased fans with a hint that something “incredible” is in store. He reassured fans that the team is actively working on the story and that it’s a project they are very excited about.
The Frozen franchise began with the massive success of the first film in 2013, which grossed over USD 1.2 billion worldwide, and its 2019 sequel, Frozen 2, was equally successful. The franchise has since expanded to include a Broadway musical, and the films’ themes of love, self-belief, and sisterhood have resonated with audiences worldwide.
Kristen Bell, who voices Anna, reflected on the unexpected success of the franchise, noting that while no one could foresee the box office success, she always felt there was something special about it. “It’s not about romantic love. It’s about believing in someone even when they don’t believe in themselves,” Bell said, highlighting the empowering messages that have made the Frozen films so beloved.
