Julia Roberts Set To Receive Prestigious César Award In Paris

Julia Roberts is set to receive an honorary César Award at the prestigious 50th César Awards ceremony, scheduled for February 28, 2025, at the iconic Olympia Hall in Paris.

This gala event will be broadcast live on Canal+, marking a significant celebration of both her contributions to cinema and her impact beyond the screen.

The French film academy, which presents the César Awards, praised Roberts in a statement, calling her “not only a movie star but also a cultural icon whose influence extends far beyond her performances.” They also highlighted her philanthropic efforts, including her work as a UNICEF ambassador and her advocacy for humanitarian initiatives globally.

Additionally, Roberts has been a strong voice for environmental causes and women’s rights, contributing to documentaries focused on protecting the planet.

Julia Roberts first gained recognition in Hollywood with her role in Mystic Pizza (1988), but it was her iconic performance as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman (1990) that skyrocketed her to global fame. Over her illustrious career, she has starred in numerous critically acclaimed films, such as The Pelican Brief, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Closer, Notting Hill, and Eat Pray Love. Her versatility spans various genres, including the action-comedy Ocean’s Eleven franchise and the poignant family drama Ben Is Back.

Roberts has received four Academy Award nominations, winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 2001 for her role in Erin Brockovich. In recent years, she has also expanded her repertoire to television, earning accolades for her performances in Amazon Prime’s anthology series Homecoming and the Emmy-nominated limited series Gaslit, where she portrayed Watergate whistleblower Martha Mitchell.

Looking ahead, Roberts will be featured in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller After the Hunt. This latest honor will place her among an esteemed group of past César recipients, which includes her Ocean’s Eleven co-star George Clooney, as well as notable figures like Penélope Cruz, Robert Redford, Cate Blanchett, and Scarlett Johansson.
