July 16, 2025: Julia Roberts steps into a storm of controversy in the upcoming psychological thriller After the Hunt, directed by Challengers filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Released by Amazon MGM Studios, the trailer dropped on July 16 and shows Roberts, 57, playing a college professor facing a dual crisis—one involving a student’s serious accusation and another buried deep in her own past.

The drama begins when Maggie (played by The Bear star Ayo Edebiri) accuses fellow professor Hank (Andrew Garfield) of misconduct, telling Roberts’ character, “He crossed the line.” As tensions ripple across campus, colleagues begin to question Maggie’s credibility, while Roberts’ character wrestles with a secret from years ago that could destroy her.

Described by the studio as “a gripping psychological drama,” After the Hunt explores the complexity of truth, power dynamics, and generational divides in the wake of the #MeToo movement. Written by Nora Garrett, the film opens with a seemingly harmless debate about modern sensitivities before unraveling into a high-stakes emotional battle.

At CinemaCon 2025, Guadagnino, Garfield, and Edebiri praised Roberts’ “brilliant” performance. Garfield called Guadagnino “a radical artist” who captures the emotional spectrum of humanity—desire, betrayal, envy, and love—while Edebiri added, “It’s a movie made to be seen with others and talked about.”

After the Hunt, which also stars Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny, hits theaters on October 10.
