London [UK], July 8 – Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth has stormed the U.K. and Ireland box office with a mighty £12.4 million ($17 million) opening, marking a powerful return for the dinosaur saga. Directed by Gareth Edwards and featuring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, the latest chapter in the iconic franchise snatched the top spot with ease, reinforcing the global appeal of prehistoric spectacle.
Universal Pictures roared back to the top of the U.K. and Ireland box office this past weekend with Jurassic World Rebirth, which opened to a commanding £12.4 million ($17 million), according to Comscore. The reboot, helmed by Rogue One director Gareth Edwards, signals a successful revival of the Steven Spielberg-created franchise.
The film stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey as part of a new extraction team navigating a perilous island once central to the original Jurassic Park lore. Riding on a wave of international momentum, Rebirth is now the second-highest opening of the year in the U.K., and one of the franchise’s best starts overseas.
Coming in strong at second place, Warner Bros.’ F1, a motorsport drama starring Brad Pitt, added $4.1 million in its sophomore frame, bringing its total haul to $17.6 million. The film’s steady performance signals continued audience interest in premium formats like IMAX, in which it has been heavily featured.
Universal’s live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon continues to show staying power, finishing third with $2 million, pushing its four-week domestic total to $24.8 million.
Sony’s dystopian thriller 28 Years Later remained in the top five, adding $1.9 million for a cumulative $16.9 million. Close behind was Disney-Pixar’s troubled title Elio, which drew in £942,496, lifting its domestic total to $4.1 million in its third week.
