“Jurassic World Rebirth” Roars to No. 1 In China, Leads $58.3M Weekend Box Office

Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth debuted at No. 1 at the China box office over the July 4–6 weekend, grossing RMB184.8 million ($25.7 million), according to Artisan Gateway. Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, and Rupert Friend, the film revives the iconic dinosaur franchise for a new generation. Imax screenings contributed $5.5 million to the impressive China total.

Meanwhile, TMS Entertainment’s Detective Conan: The Movie – One‑Eyed Flashback continued its successful run, earning $8.4 million in its second weekend, pushing its cumulative total to $38.6 million.

In third place, Warner Bros. and Apple Original’s F1: The Movie grossed $7.7 million over the weekend, raising its total to $21.8 million, with $2.5 million coming from Imax.

Fourth place went to As One Production’s thriller Malice, which debuted with $6.6 million. Directed by Lai Mukuan and Yao Wenyi, the film follows journalist Ye Pan (Zhang Xiaofei), whose explosive reporting on a controversial double fall triggers a public firestorm.

In fifth, Emperor Motion Pictures’ A Cool Fish 2 opened with $2.6 million. Directed by Rao Xiaozhi and starring Pan Binlong, Ren Suxi, Ma Yinyin, and Zhang Yu, the film follows Sanjin as he struggles to expand his Yiwu-based business into Southeast Asia, only to be derailed by a global recession and a terrorist attack.

The weekend’s box office totaled $58.3 million, bringing China’s year-to-date cumulative box office revenue to $4.15 billion. The Chinese market remains strong, running 22.7% ahead of the same period in 2024.
