Justin Bieber’s Secret Struggle: Why He Rushed to Sell His Entire Music Catalog

May 15, 2025: Pop star Justin Bieber was reportedly on the brink of financial collapse in 2022, prompting him to make a bold — and controversial — decision: selling off the rights to his entire music catalog.

The revelation comes from TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber, a new documentary that explores the Canadian singer’s struggles behind the scenes, far from the spotlight. According to sources cited in the film, Bieber was dealing with a severe financial crunch that forced his hand.

“Justin’s manager Scooter Braun tried to tell him it was a bad idea to sell so early in his career, and to at least wait until January 2023 to get a tax break,” claims the documentary. “But Justin didn’t want to wait.”

In early 2023, Bieber made headlines when he became the youngest artist ever to sell his music catalog, a deal estimated to be worth over $200 million. While the amount was record-breaking, many fans and industry insiders questioned the timing, suggesting it was far too soon in his career.

The decision allegedly went against the advice of Scooter Braun, who discovered Bieber at age 13 and helped skyrocket him to global fame. The duo’s professional relationship ended in 2023 after more than a decade of collaboration.

This isn’t the first time Bieber has made headlines recently. The singer has faced ongoing rumors of marital strain with wife Hailey Bieber, along with criticism of his erratic behavior on social media.

In response to the growing scrutiny, Bieber posted a reflective Instagram story last month, writing:

“Every day I wake up thinking maybe I am too flawed for God to utilise me… Yet God uses me (flaws and all) every day… Nothing disqualifies us from experiencing God’s good plans for our life.”

The documentary paints a picture of a star grappling with fame, fortune, and faith — and trying to regain control in a world that made him a global icon before he was old enough to drive.
