March 11, 2025: K-pop singer and songwriter Wheesung, whose real name is Choi Whee-sung, was tragically found dead in his Seoul apartment on Monday evening. The cause of his death has not yet been determined.
Wheesung’s agency, Tajoy Entertainment, confirmed the news of his passing in an official statement. They shared that the singer was found in cardiac arrest at his residence and was later pronounced dead. The agency expressed deep sorrow, stating that its artists and staff were mourning the loss of the beloved singer.
Wheesung made his debut in 2002 with his hit R&B album “Like a Movie” and quickly gained popularity for his talent, blending genres such as R&B, pop, and hip-hop. He had a successful career in the Korean music industry, earning recognition for his soulful voice and music.
However, his career faced challenges in 2021 when he was convicted of using the anesthetic propofol without a prescription. He was sentenced to one year in prison, though his sentence was suspended for two years.
According to reports, Wheesung’s mother discovered his body in his apartment in the Gwangjin-gu district of Seoul at approximately 6:29 p.m. on Monday. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but he was pronounced dead. The singer had been scheduled to meet his manager earlier that day but had failed to show up and could not be reached. Concerned, his mother went to check on him and found him unresponsive.
As investigations continue into the cause of death, fans and colleagues from the K-pop industry are paying tribute to Wheesung’s contribution to music and his legacy in the Korean entertainment scene.
