Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali's Anthology 'My Melbourne' To Release In India In March
February 10, 2025: Renowned filmmakers Kabir Khan, Rima Das, Imtiaz Ali, and Onir have come together for the highly anticipated anthology titled My Melbourne. The project, which premiered earlier at the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in August 2024, is set to be released in India on March 14, 2025.
The anthology comprises four distinct stories, each exploring themes of race, gender, sexuality, and disability. The stories include Nandini (directed by Onir), Setara (directed by Kabir Khan), Emma (directed by Rima Das), and Jules (directed by Arif Ali and creatively guided by Imtiaz Ali). The films are presented in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Dari, and Auslan, ensuring diverse representation.
Kabir Khan expressed his excitement about the project, emphasizing the power of storytelling to connect people across borders. His contribution, Setara, is based on the real-life journey of Setara, with the character being portrayed by the woman herself. The film touches on resilience and identity—personal themes with universal resonance. “Working on this project has been an enriching experience, and I can’t wait for Indian audiences to witness these stories,” Khan said.
Imtiaz Ali praised the anthology for its blend of diverse narratives. “Cinema is a bridge that unites cultures, and My Melbourne is a testament to that,” he remarked. “Each filmmaker has brought a distinct flavor to this anthology, making it an emotional and thought-provoking journey.”
Onir, who directed Nandini, spoke about the importance of representation. “For me, storytelling is about bringing marginalized voices to the forefront. Nandini addresses themes of identity and acceptance, which are more relevant than ever.”
With its mix of powerful storytelling, emotional depth, and inclusivity, My Melbourne promises to be a compelling watch for audiences in India and beyond.
