Kabir Khan Teases Reunion with Kartik Aaryan: “It’s an Exciting Project”

Panaji – Filmmaker Kabir Khan today hinted strongly at a potential reunion with actor Kartik Aaryan for his next directorial venture, following their successful 2024 collaboration on the sports drama, Chandu Champion.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa, Khan confirmed that he has a completed script and described the project as an “exciting human interest drama.”

🤝 Details on the New Project

  • Status: The project is currently in the discussion phase, with logistics being worked out.
  • Timeline: Khan stated that an official announcement, including specific details, should be made “in a month or so.”
  • Genre/Theme: The filmmaker revealed the film is “right up his alley,” being an exciting human interest story with a “larger than life backdrop of politics, society, everything.”
  • Production Partner: Khan is also looking forward to collaborating with producer Sameer Nair and his banner, Applause Entertainment, praising Nair’s “great knack for selecting interesting stories.”

🎞️ IFFI Presentation: ‘My Melbourne’

At IFFI, Khan is presenting My Melbourne, an anthology film that explores diverse themes and stories against the backdrop of the Australian city’s multi-cultural fabric.

  • Collaboration: The film features four short films directed by four different directors: Kabir Khan, Onir, Rima Das, and Imtiaz Ali.
  • Themes: The anthology tackles crucial modern themes of diversity, sexuality, gender, disability, and race.

📣 Appeal to the Film Industry Ecosystem

Khan also used the platform to discuss the challenges faced by unconventional cinema, stressing that the industry’s success relies on a vital “two-way thing” between creators and consumers:

  • The Complaint: Khan noted the common complaint that only mainstream films are being made.
  • Audience Support: He argued that when different or unconventional cinema is made, “the audience doesn’t step up and support it.”
  • Exhibition Issue: He also criticized exhibitors for often giving smaller films only “morning or afternoon slots,” urging theatres to ensure better showcasing by providing at least “one good show” to allow audiences to attend.
