Kalki 2 Director Nag Ashwin’s Response to Sequel Buzz -“We Are Waiting For…”

Director Nag Ashwin finally breaks silence on Kalki 2’s release timeline with a cryptic yet witty reply, leaving fans of Prabhas, Deepika, and Big B both amused and intrigued.

After the staggering success of Kalki 2898 AD in 2024, fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on its highly-anticipated sequel. The futuristic sci-fi epic, headlined by Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan, set new standards in Indian cinema—and speculation around Kalki 2 has been intensifying ever since.

At a recent public appearance, director Nag Ashwin was finally confronted with the question that’s been on every fan’s mind: When is Kalki 2 releasing? His answer, however, was anything but straightforward.

“Last time, when 3 or 4 planets aligned, we released Kalki 2898 AD. Now, we’re waiting for 7 or 8 planets to align for Kalki 2,” he said, tongue firmly in cheek.

The filmmaker’s witty response evoked laughter but also confirmed what fans suspected: there’s no concrete release date yet. However, it also suggests the scale of Kalki 2 will be even more massive than its predecessor.

For those who may not know, Kalki 2898 AD was always envisioned as a two-part cinematic saga. The first film featured an ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan, and Mrunal Thakur, and shattered several box office records upon its release.

Earlier interviews with Nag Ashwin hinted that Part 2 will explore deeper narratives, especially focusing on Bhairava (Prabhas) and Karna, expanding the universe both mythologically and emotionally.

Meanwhile, Prabhas has his hands full with major projects—Hanu Raghavapudi’s Fauji, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, and Maruthi’s The Raja Saab. Only after wrapping these will he dive into his double-sequel schedule, which includes Salaar 2 and Kalki 2.

So while the stars (literally) may need to align for the sequel to drop, one thing is clear—Kalki 2 is coming, and expectations couldn’t be higher.
