Kamal Haasan Breaks Silence After Kannada Remark Backlash

June 03, 2025: Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has finally addressed the growing controversy over his recent comment about the Kannada language, made during a promotional event for his upcoming film Thug Life. The statement sparked outrage in Karnataka, with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) calling for a ban on the film’s release in the state.

🎤 What Did Kamal Haasan Say?

The controversy began when Kamal Haasan made a remark during Thug Life promotions that some perceived as disrespectful to the Kannada language. Although the exact comment hasn’t been officially quoted, the KFCC deemed it offensive enough to demand a public apology.

🚫 KFCC Calls for Film Ban in Karnataka

In response to the controversy, the KFCC issued a statement, demanding that Kamal Haasan apologize for his remarks. The body also called for a ban on the release of Thug Life in Karnataka until an apology was issued.

However, Kamal Haasan has refused to apologize, claiming his words were misinterpreted. Even after approaching the court, the actor has been unable to secure a release for the film in the state.

📝 Kamal Haasan’s Open Letter to KFCC

In an effort to clear the air, Kamal Haasan penned an open letter to the KFCC, in which he wrote:

“My statement has been misunderstood and taken out of context. I have always held every Indian language, including Kannada, in the highest regard. It was never my intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments.”

He emphasized that his comments were not meant to offend and that language and culture should be respected and celebrated across regions.

🎬 What’s Next for Thug Life?

While Thug Life is gearing up for its nationwide release, the ban in Karnataka remains a significant hurdle. The makers are hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon, especially with Kamal Haasan’s public clarification now in place.
