November 19, 2024: Kanguva’s Box Office Struggle– Despite massive pre-release buzz and a star-studded cast including Suriya and Bobby Deol, Kanguva has failed to make a mark at the box office. Released on November 14, the highly anticipated pan-India film was made on a massive budget of ₹350 crore, yet it couldn’t surpass ₹60 crore in its first five days. The primary reason for its underwhelming performance is attributed to a weak script and poor word-of-mouth, which disappointed audiences across regions.
The film opened decently, earning ₹24 crore on its first day, including ₹3.5 crore from the Hindi version. However, these numbers fell far short of expectations, as Kanguva was predicted to achieve a ₹50 crore opening day. The situation worsened as negative reviews began circulating. By Friday and Saturday, the collections dipped to ₹9.5 crore, with only a slight recovery on Sunday, when it earned ₹10.5 crore.
In the Hindi belt, where Bobby Deol’s inclusion was expected to draw significant interest, the film collected a mere ₹10-11 crore across the first four days, despite a screen count of 2,500-3,000. This performance reflects its failure to attract the northern audience.
Kanguva was expected to be a game-changer for Kollywood, with its pan-India appeal and a massive budget. However, its lackluster performance is a stark reminder that star power and big budgets cannot replace quality content. Even with Suriya’s immense popularity in the South and Bobby Deol’s name in the Hindi belt, the film’s poor execution has made it a major box-office disappointment.
