Kanguva First Reviews: Fans Laud Suriya’s Dedication, But Critique Shoddy Execution and Loud Narrative

November 14, 2024: The highly-anticipated Tamil epic Kanguva, starring Suriya, Bobby Deol, and Disha Patani, has hit theatres, and the early reviews are pouring in with mixed reactions. Directed by Siva, the film showcases Suriya in a dual role as both the historical warrior Kanguva and the modern-day man Francis. While Suriya’s powerful performance and the grand visuals have been praised, fans and critics are divided on other aspects, including the film’s execution and emotional depth.

Suriya’s Performance and Visuals Impress Fans Fans have highlighted Suriya’s intense portrayal and the quality of visual effects, especially in action sequences like the crocodile fight scene. One fan tweeted, “Rating Kanguva: 4/5. Dramatic and insane action with goosebumps moments. Suriya really carries the film.” Another commented on the impressive first half, mentioning the stylish entry, unreleased songs by DSP, and powerful fight sequences.

Mixed Reactions to Story and Execution Despite the strong performances and visuals, several viewers felt the story and execution fell short. Some criticised the film’s loudness, noting that characters shout excessively. “All the characters, including Suriya, speak in high pitch, which becomes too much to take,” shared one viewer. Another fan noted that the story missed the emotional connection needed to anchor such an epic narrative.

Francis Portions and CGI Critiqued The Francis storyline has also received criticism for lacking the emotional depth expected of Suriya’s role, with many feeling the second half dragged. One viewer commented, “The movie gets tiring towards the end. Suriya’s dedication shines, but the story could have been more supportive.”

There were also comments on CGI, with smoke effects used heavily to cover up certain visual shortcomings.

Summary While Kanguva has its moments, especially with Suriya’s performance and the grand visuals, fans feel the film’s loudness, excessive CGI, and inconsistent execution may hinder its impact. Whether the movie can turn around reviews in the coming days will be worth watching.
