‘Kannappa’ Hit by Mysterious Data Loss, Will Fans Have to Wait Longer?

May 27, 2025: The upcoming mythological epic Kannappa has hit a major roadblock just weeks ahead of its highly anticipated release. A hard drive containing critical VFX footage for the film has reportedly gone missing, raising concerns over potential delays in post-production.

The missing footage could have serious implications for the film, which is scheduled to hit theatres on June 27, 2025. The incident was first reported by 123Telugu, stating that the drive was handed over by a Mumbai-based VFX company to the film’s production office. It is alleged that an individual named Raghu received the drive and later gave it to someone named Charita, who has since gone missing. Executive producer Vijay Kumar has filed a formal complaint, and an investigation is currently underway.

Star-Studded Cast, Pan-India Release

Kannappa marks the Telugu debut of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, who will portray Lord Shiva. The film also features Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, with key performances by Prabhas, Mohanlal, Kajal Aggarwal, Mohan Babu, and Madhoo. The teaser, recently unveiled, offered a first glimpse of Prabhas as the ‘Divine Guardian’ Rudra and highlighted the grandeur and devotion at the core of the film’s narrative.

Yogi Adityanath Unveils Release Date

The film’s release date was officially announced during a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Actor-producer Vishnu Manchu described the meeting as “a moment of immense honour” and expressed gratitude for the CM’s support of mythological cinema.

“Seeing him resonate with the soul of our film was incredibly moving. He understood that Kannappa isn’t just a story—it’s a cultural resurrection,” said Manchu.

Teaser Goes Viral

The teaser has generated considerable buzz across social media, particularly with fans excited about Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Shiva. The film, which is directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by M Mohan Babu, promises to blend visual spectacle with deep-rooted spiritual themes.

The film is set for a pan-India release in five languages — Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
