The prequel to the sensational hit Kantara has reportedly secured a staggering ₹125 crore digital rights deal, a record for a Kannada film. The announcement has sent a wave of excitement ahead of the highly anticipated trailer launch on September 20.
September 11, 2025: Before the movie comes out, the Kannada film industry gets a big win: Rishab Shetty’s highly anticipated prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, has signed a large digital streaming deal with Amazon Prime Video for ₹125 crore. The digital rights to the movie are currently worth the second most for a Kannada movie, behind the pan-Indian success KGF: Chapter 2.
According to reports, the deal with Amazon Prime Video lets them broadcast the movie in all languages. This will help it reach a lot of people when it exits cinemas. Hombale Films’ strategic choice reveals that they think the project can spread beyond its home region, exactly as the original Kantara, which became a cultural phenomenon all throughout the country.
The movie, which is a mythological look into the Bhuta Kola tradition, is being made on a massive scale. Reports say that around 20 VFX studios from all over the world are working on the film’s post-production to make it seem stunning on screen.
Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is also going to record a song for the movie, which gets people even more excited about it before it comes out. People assume that this relationship will help the movie become more successful in North India, where Dosanjh has a lot of fans.
Kantara: Chapter 1 will have a massive premiere in theaters on October 2, 2025, to mark Gandhi Jayanti. The official trailer should come out around September 20. This will be the last phase of marketing for the movie. Before it was out, the movie did well at the box office. Reports say that the rights to screen it in theaters in the Telugu states alone sold for approximately ₹100 crore.
