Kanye West Deactivates X Account After Controversial Posts and Super Bowl Ad

Rapper Ye exits social media following backlash over antisemitic, misogynistic, and homophobic remarks

Washington [US], February 11: Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account after posting a string of controversial remarks, including antisemitic, misogynistic, and homophobic messages, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

Ye’s Controversial Posts and Sudden Exit

On Sunday, February 9, Ye took to X, posting inflammatory messages alongside explicit video clips. His final post suggested that his reach on the platform was being restricted and announced his plan to launch a Discord channel.

“MY TWITTER REACH HAS BEEN LIMITED SO I AM NOT ALLOWED TO TREND DURING SUPER BOWL I AM SETTING UP A DISCORD CHANNEL ON MY WEBSITE WELCOME TO AMERICA,” Ye wrote.

Shortly after, Milo Yiannopoulos, a political commentator and Ye’s associate at Yeezy, confirmed that the rapper had deactivated his account. He directed media inquiries to his PR firm, Tarantula.

“Ye has deactivated his X account for the time being. Journalists with requests for comment about this or any other matter pertaining to Ye may direct them to my firm,” Yiannopoulos told The Hollywood Reporter.

Super Bowl Ad Sparks Attention

Ye’s exit from X comes just after his unexpected Super Bowl commercial aired across the country. The self-produced ad claimed that Ye had spent all the production money on dental work, forcing him to film the ad using just an iPhone. The commercial also directed viewers to his website, Yeezy.com.

Ye’s Call for Donald Trump to Intervene in Diddy’s Case

In another controversial move, Ye called on former U.S. President Donald Trump to help free music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing serious charges, including alleged sex trafficking and racketeering.

Slamming Hollywood celebrities for their silence on Diddy’s arrest, Ye accused them of letting Combs “rot” in jail instead of speaking out in his defense.

“Donald Trump, PLEASE FREE MY BROTHER PUFF,” Ye wrote in another X post before deactivating his account.

A Pattern of Controversy

Ye’s X account was previously suspended in late 2022 for similar antisemitic remarks but was reinstated in 2023 after Elon Musk took over the platform. His latest deactivation follows a string of public controversies, including feuds with fellow artists, inflammatory political statements, and legal battles related to his Yeezy brand.

With Ye now off X, it remains to be seen whether he will continue engaging with his audience through Discord or his Yeezy website as promised.
