These films, revered for their timeless storytelling, musical brilliance, and social relevance, will be restored for modern-day audiences, providing a fresh cinematic experience. The restoration process has been a collaborative effort involving the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), and the Film Heritage Foundation.
In a recent interaction at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about the importance of preserving the cinematic legacy of filmmakers like his grandfather. “It’s important we remember our roots—not just Raj Kapoor, but so many filmmakers and artists who have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema,” said Ranbir, highlighting the significance of the ongoing restoration work.
He emphasized that Raj Kapoor’s films were not just monumental for their artistry but also for their profound impact on Indian cinema and culture. Kapoor’s ability to blend entertainment with social issues and emotional depth set him apart, making his films relevant even today.
Raj Kapoor’s journey in cinema began as a child actor in Inquilab (1935), but it was his groundbreaking role in Neel Kamal (1947) that marked the beginning of his iconic career. Over the years, he became a pioneering director, actor, and producer, founding RK Films in 1948, which went on to produce some of the most memorable films in Indian cinema.
