December 11, 2024: The Kapoor family recently visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to extend a special invitation for the celebration of the legendary Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary. Present at the meeting were Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, among other family members.

The gathering was held to commemorate the iconic filmmaker’s contributions to Indian cinema. To honour Raj Kapoor’s legacy, the family announced a nationwide screening of his most celebrated works through the “Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival.” This special event will feature 10 of his most iconic films screened across 40 cities and 135 cinemas from December 13 to 15, 2024.

Kareena Kapoor Khan shared heartfelt moments from the meeting on Instagram. A group photograph showcased the Kapoor family with the Prime Minister, while other images captured candid moments of PM Modi engaging warmly with Saif Ali Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. One notable photo showed the Prime Minister penning a personal note for Kareena’s sons, Taimur and Jeh, who were unable to attend.
Expressing gratitude, Kareena wrote, “We are deeply humbled and honored to have been invited by the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to commemorate the extraordinary life and legacy of our grandfather, the legendary Raj Kapoor. Thank you, Shri Modi ji, for such a special afternoon. Your warmth, attention, and support in celebrating this milestone meant the world to us.”
She further highlighted the cultural significance of Raj Kapoor’s work, saying, “As we celebrate 100 glorious years of Dadaji’s artistry, vision, and contribution to Indian cinema, we honor the timeless impact of his legacy, which continues to inspire us and generations to come.”
The film festival will feature classics spanning nearly four decades of Raj Kapoor’s career, including Aag (1948), Barsaat (1949), Awaara (1951), Shree 420 (1955), Jagte Raho (1956), Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai (1960), Sangam (1964), Mera Naam Joker (1970), Bobby (1973), and Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985).
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni also shared photos from the meeting, including one where the Prime Minister offered his blessings. The event highlights not only the Kapoor family’s dedication to preserving Raj Kapoor’s cinematic legacy but also the Government of India’s recognition of his contributions to Indian culture.
