Filmmaker Karan Johar has weighed in on the internet’s biggest love triangle debate, drawing a fun parallel between his 2012 film Student of the Year and the hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty. His post adds a Bollywood twist to a saga that has captivated millions of fans worldwide.

September 12, 2025: Bollywood has become a big fan of the global hit The Summer I Turned Pretty. Filmmaker Karan Johar compared the show’s passionate love triangle to his own hit movie, Student of the Year. Johar took a playful jab at the “Team Conrad vs. Team Jeremiah” dispute on social media, saying that he was “here first” with the “Team Rohan vs. Team Abhimanyu” battle.

Johar tweeted on his Instagram Stories, “Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah?” It’s either Team Rohan or Team Abhimanyu! “#WeWereHereFirst #SummerShanayaTurnedPretty.” Johar’s 2012 movie had a love triangle between three friends, while the hit Amazon Prime program is about a girl who is stuck between two brothers. Fans of both shows quickly spoke up, with many complimenting the director for pointing out how popular the show is in India.

The similarity comes just in time for the show’s Season 3 finale, which will air on September 17. The penultimate episode, which came out on Wednesday, took viewers on an emotional journey through Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah’s lives over the course of a year of recovery and self-discovery. Fans went through a lot of emotions during the episode, especially when Jeremiah gave Conrad his okay to go after Belly. This left many fans on the edge of their seats for the finale.

Belly is dating a new man and enjoying her life in Paris, but the last few minutes of the show suggest that she and Conrad are getting back together. We see him flying to Paris to visit her. The shocking cliffhanger has sparked a heated debate among fans on social media, with people going over every moment to try to guess who Belly will choose in the end: Conrad, Jeremiah, or herself. Indian viewers have loved the program because of its strong writing and relatable emotional struggle. Karan Johar’s parallel is a timely tribute to the show’s cultural effect.
