Karan Johar Marks 27 Years of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, Shares Throwback Pics

Karan Johar gets nostalgic, sharing beautiful, candid behind-the-scenes moments from his iconic directorial debut on its 27th anniversary.

October 16, 2025: Can you believe it’s been 27 years since Rahul, Anjali, and Tina first stole our hearts? Time may have moved on, but for millions of Bollywood fans, Karan Johar’s directorial debut, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998), still feels as fresh as ever.

To mark the momentous 27th anniversary of the cult classic on Thursday, filmmaker Karan Johar took to his Instagram account to share a series of previously unseen, candid pictures from the sets of the blockbuster, sending fans on a deep dive into nostalgia.

The heartwarming collection of images features the main trio—Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji—alongside other key members of the cast and crew, including Farah Khan, Anupam Kher, and Archana Puran Singh. To amplify the sentiment, Karan set the post to the film’s evergreen track, “Tum Paas Aaye.”

In a heartfelt note accompanying the pictures, the director wrote, “27 years!!! Some beautiful and candid memories from our set of #KuchKuchHotaHai… a set filled with love, too much banter, and happiness. Thank you to everyone for the love you continue to give this film; it means everything to me! @dharmamovies”

The post immediately went viral, with the comment section flooding with fans sharing their own memories of watching the film for the first time. One user declared it “A movie that’s etched in our memories since childhood – truly unforgettable!” while another hailed it as “A Masterpiece, a film ahead of its time.”

For anyone who grew up in the ’90s, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ is more than just a movie; it’s a piece of their childhood. Even 27 years later, the film’s iconic dialogues like “Pyaar dosti hai” and the unforgettable pop culture elements—from Anjali’s signature bob-cut to SRK’s ‘cool’ pendant—continue to resonate with audiences across generations.

The film, which also featured a special cameo by Salman Khan, was a massive commercial and critical success, earning Karan Johar the prestigious National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The newly shared pictures are a fitting tribute to the cinematic milestone that launched Karan Johar’s career and redefined friendship and romance in Indian cinema.
