Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions Enters Punjabi Cinema with ‘Akaal’

Marking its debut in Punjabi films, Dharma Productions collaborates with Gippy Grewal for ‘Akaal,’ which will also be the first Punjabi film to release in Hindi.

Mumbai, March 11: In a landmark move, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has announced its first-ever Punjabi film in collaboration with actor-singer Gippy Grewal for the upcoming historical drama, Akaal.

Taking to Instagram, Karan Johar expressed his excitement about the venture, calling it a “moment of pride” as Dharma expands into regional cinema.

“It gives me so much pride to have Dharma Productions associating with the legendary & accomplished Gippy Grewal to mark our first foray into Punjabi cinema. Akaal not only represents the culture & history of Punjab but I am positive it will resonate on a deeper level with the entirety of India and beyond,” Karan wrote.

Adding to the excitement, he revealed that Akaal would be the first Punjabi film to be released in Hindi worldwide, making it a pioneering project in bridging regional and mainstream Indian cinema.

“Which is why we are even prouder to present Akaal, being the first Punjabi film to be released in Hindi in cinemas worldwide… so that the magic of cinema continues to conquer beyond borders,” he added.

Karan also expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership with Gippy Grewal, hoping for more collaborations in the future.
