May 2, 2025: At the ongoing WAVES Summit, Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan made it clear once again that she has no aspirations to pursue a Hollywood career.
Speaking candidly at a panel discussion moderated by filmmaker Karan Johar, Kareena shared her indifference to the idea of working in international cinema, despite her global fame.
The actor recalled a memorable moment when legendary Hollywood director Steven Spielberg approached her after the release of the 2013 blockbuster 3 Idiots. “Steven Spielberg was eating in the same restaurant as me. This was many moons ago, when 3 Idiots had just released. He came up to me and said, ‘Are you the girl from this Indian movie about three students?’ I said, ‘Yes, that’s me.’ He said, ‘My God! I love that movie!’ I didn’t have to act in an English film for him to see it. He watched 3 Idiots!” she said, emphasizing that the power of Indian cinema transcends international borders.

Johar, a close friend of Kareena, further invoked a memorable line from her character in the 2007 hit Jab We Met, saying, “Main apni favourite hun” (“I am my own favorite”). To this, Kareena responded passionately, “Every girl and woman should always say this line, ‘Mai apni favourite hun.'”

The actress also humorously revisited her famous quote from a Koffee with Karan episode, where she had joked about Bollywood stars flocking to Hollywood. “Sab bus pakad ke Hollywood jaa rahe hain,” Kareena had remarked. Laughing at Johar’s reminder, she affirmed, “Main yehi hoon. I love my Indian movies and working in them. I love dancing to Hindi songs and speaking Hindi dialogues. ‘Bhatinda ki Sikhni hun’ (a dialogue from Jab We Met), acha lagta hai baar baar bolna.”
Kareena’s statements at WAVES 2025 reflect her deep-rooted love and commitment to the Indian film industry. Despite the growing trend of Bollywood actors eyeing international careers, Kareena remains unapologetically devoted to her roots and to the unique charm of Hindi cinema.
