May 02, 2025 : Even after nearly two decades, Jab We Met continues to hold a special place in Bollywood’s romantic legacy. Kareena Kapoor Khan, who played the unforgettable Geet Dhillon in the 2007 hit opposite Shahid Kapoor, recently reflected on the film’s lasting global impact at the ongoing WAVES 2025 summit.

In a panel moderated by filmmaker Karan Johar, Kareena was asked to pick one film she’d recommend to a global audience. Her answer was immediate: Jab We Met. “It embodies the spirit of a young Indian girl, a Punjabi girl with dreams, spark, and the freedom to love on her own terms,” she said. “It connected then, and I believe it still resonates worldwide.”

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Jab We Met tells the story of Aditya Kashyap (Shahid Kapoor), a dejected tycoon who finds renewed purpose after meeting Geet Dhillon (Kareena Kapoor), a lively and fearless woman on a train journey. Their contrasting personalities—Geet’s exuberance and Aditya’s solemnity—brought the saying “opposites attract” to life on screen.

The film’s iconic soundtrack, featuring hits like “Ye Ishq Hai”, “Mauja Hi Mauja”, and “Tum Se Hi”, also played a major role in its success and cult status.

Kareena also opened up about working in Hollywood, saying, “It just didn’t happen organically. I never chased it, but if a Hindi-English crossover film comes my way, maybe it’s meant to be. After all, even Spielberg is watching our films!”

WAVES 2025, India’s first major international summit focused on audio-visual and entertainment industries, kicked off on May 1 and will run through May 4. The event brings together over 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, and 300 companies from film, OTT, gaming, AI, and beyond.
