Celebrity power couple Kate Upton and Justin Verlander have welcomed their second child — a son named Bellamy Brooks Verlander, born on June 19. The joyous news was confirmed by Upton’s representative to PEOPLE, with TMZ being the first outlet to break the story. The couple, married since 2017, are already doting parents to their 6-year-old daughter Genevieve, affectionately called “Vivi.”
The family of four has often melted hearts with their public appearances. During the 2022 MLB All-Star Game Red Carpet, they were seen donning coordinated yellow-toned outfits — a picture-perfect moment that delighted fans and media alike.
As Vivi continues to grow, she’s beginning to understand and enjoy her father’s career more. In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Verlander shared an adorable anecdote: “We were walking through the clubhouse, and a highlight of one of my starts was playing on the TVs. She stopped, pointed and said, ‘Daddy, that’s you!’”
Verlander has expressed how meaningful it is to share special moments like the All-Star Game with his daughter. “This time, it’s something I want to experience with my family and specifically with my daughter,” he said during his fifth All-Star appearance.
The couple’s journey has been full of milestone moments. Just days after Verlander won his first World Series with the Houston Astros in 2017, the couple tied the knot. They would go on to celebrate another World Series victory with the Astros in 2022. Verlander later joined the New York Mets for a brief stint in 2023 before returning to Houston, and as of January 2025, he signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco Giants.
Fatherhood has shaped Verlander’s career goals, too. Speaking to PEOPLE in 2019, he revealed, “I would like to be able to play long enough that my daughter can see me and remember me playing baseball when she grows older. It pushes me to stay in shape and be the best pitcher I can for as long as possible.”
Upton, reflecting on her daughter’s personality, shared last year that Vivi shares her dad’s love for structure. “They are both big rule followers,” she joked, “but Vivi also loves to dance, have a good time, and be in the moment — I think she gets that from me.”
With the arrival of Bellamy Brooks, the Verlander-Upton household enters a new era filled with even more joy, laughter, and memories in the making.
