Kate Winslet reminisced Titanic's Iconic kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio
Who can forget the 1997 release Titanic, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio? The Hollywood Reporter recently shared Winslet’s memories of filming, including the iconic ‘I’m flying’ scene with DiCaprio’s Jack.
Winslet reminisced about the romantic moment, saying, “My God, he’s quite the romancer, isn’t he? No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio.” She added, “It was not all it’s cracked up to be,” referring to the challenges of filming the scene.
The chemistry between Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, played by DiCaprio and Winslet respectively, was loved by audiences. The characters came from different classes, adding depth to their relationship.
The ‘I’m flying’ scene, where Jack and Rose stand on the ship’s bow with arms outstretched, is one of the film’s most iconic moments. However, filming was not without difficulties. Winslet mentioned having to redo a kissing sequence multiple times due to makeup issues and lighting challenges. She described the filming location as a “nightmare,” noting the difficulty of reaching the set and the challenges with lighting.
Despite the challenges, Winslet expressed pride in the film’s enduring popularity. “I do feel very proud of it, because I feel that it is that film that just keeps giving,” she said. “Whole other generations of people are discovering the film or seeing it for the first time, and there’s something extraordinary about that.”
