Kathryn Newton Brings Gayle Forman’s ‘Just One Day to Life’ In New Amazon Series

April 11, 2025: Actor Kathryn Newton, fresh off her Marvel debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is set to lead and produce Amazon’s upcoming YA series Just One Day, based on the beloved novels by Gayle Forman, as reported by Deadline.

The series will adapt the original duology—Just One Day and Just One Year—as well as the follow-up novella. The project will be spearheaded by Sherri Cooper and Jennifer Levin, known for their work on emotionally grounded storytelling, who are on board to adapt and create the series.

Originally published in 2013, Just One Day follows the tightly wound Allyson Healey, whose life is a mirror of her suitcase—“packed, planned, ordered.” But during the last day of a post-graduation tour of Europe, Allyson meets Willem, a free-spirited actor who inspires her to throw caution to the wind and spend a spontaneous day in Paris. What begins as a whirlwind romance quickly becomes a life-altering experience. When the two are suddenly separated, Allyson returns home, unable to shake her memories of that one day—and the impact it had on her sense of self.

The sequel, Just One Year, flips the narrative and tells the story from Willem’s point of view, offering a complete emotional arc for both characters. Together, the novels have sold just under 1 million copies and been translated into 19 territories, cementing their place in the YA canon.

At just 26 years old, Newton is already establishing herself as both a talented performer and an emerging creative force. Speaking to People during the Ant-Man press tour, she shared valuable advice passed down by co-stars like Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon:

“Paul Rudd told me not to hold back when I started Ant-Man… I think that’s just good advice for anybody with whatever you do in life.”

Newton, also an avid golfer and former child star, rose to fame in Paranormal Activity 4, and later earned praise for her roles in Big Little Lies, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, The Society, and most recently, Lisa Frankenstein. Now, with Just One Day, she’s stepping into the world of young adult romance both in front of and behind the camera.

With its universal themes of self-discovery, love, and identity, Just One Day is poised to resonate with a new generation of viewers—and with Newton at the helm, expectations are high.
