Katy Perry Reacts to Viral Image Of Her At Met Gala

May 7, 2025: Katy Perry had a cheeky response to the viral AI-generated photos of her at this year’s Met Gala, showcasing a stunning black dress and walking the blue carpet — despite not attending the event. For the second consecutive year, AI images of the pop star strutting the Met Gala carpet made their way across social media, fooling many fans.

Katy took to Instagram to set the record straight and had some fun with the whole situation.

In her Instagram post, Katy revealed that she was actually on her Lifetimes Tour and couldn’t attend the star-studded event. She wrote, “Couldn’t make it to the MET, I’m on The Lifetimes Tour (see you in Houston tomorrow IR️L)”. In her typical humorous style, she added, “P.s. this year I was actually with my mom so she’s safe from the bots but I’m praying for the rest of y’all.”

Katy’s husband, Orlando Bloom, joined in on the joke, commenting, “Not once but twice (laughing emoji) still got it (fire emoji)”, referencing the AI mishap from last year when a similar photo of her at the Met Gala went viral. Back then, Katy shared that the AI-edited image had even fooled her mom, who thought she had attended the event.

Last year, Katy had a similar situation when an AI-generated photo of her wearing a ballgown at the 2024 Met Gala went viral. The gown, matching the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, was just as fictional as this year’s outfit, but that didn’t stop fans — and even her mom — from believing the image. Katy had shared a screenshot of her mom’s text asking, “Didn’t know you went to the Met … what a gorgeous gown,” to which she responded, “Mom, the A.I. got you too, beware.”

Though Katy wasn’t in attendance at this year’s event, several big names did walk the blue carpet, including Shah Rukh Khan, Rihanna, and Priyanka Chopra. Co-chaired by A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, and Colman Domingo, the 2025 Met Gala paid tribute to “the role of sartorial style in forming Black identities, focusing on the emergence, significance, and proliferation of the Black dandy.”

Katy, on the other hand, is focused on her 2024 “Lifetimes Tour”, which kicked off in April and is currently on the road, gearing up for the U.S. leg of the tour, with a performance in Houston scheduled for tomorrow.
