Karan Singh Tyagi’s historical courtroom drama Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, is proving its staying power at the box office. Backed by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, the film has managed to cross the ₹40 crore mark within six days of release.

According to the latest figures from Sacnilk.com, the film earned ₹3.2 crore on Wednesday (Day 6), bringing its total to ₹42.2 crore. While this marks the film’s lowest single-day collection yet, it reflects a steady performance since its release on April 18.

The film opened with ₹7.75 crore, and although it hasn’t witnessed exponential growth over the week, its consistent momentum and positive word of mouth have kept it afloat in a competitive market.

Occupancy and Audience Response

On Day 6, Kesari Chapter 2 saw a 9.91% Hindi occupancy rate, which, though moderate, is holding firm given current socio-political sensitivities and the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which has had an emotional impact on national mood and entertainment consumption.

About the Film

A spiritual sequel to the 2019 hit Kesari, this installment explores the untold story of lawyer C. Sankaran Nair, portrayed by Akshay Kumar. R Madhavan plays his legal rival, Neville McKinley, and Ananya Panday appears as Dilreet Gill, a determined journalist. The film is based on “The Case That Shook the Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, which investigates the political consequences of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Director Speaks

Director Karan Singh Tyagi shared with ANI:

“I was inspired by old courtroom dramas like Damini. When I read the book, it opened up a side of history often overlooked. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was not just a spontaneous act—it was a political move. I wanted to capture that layered narrative on screen.”
