
Kesari Chapter 2 Day 6 Box Office: Produced at ₹150 Crores, Akshay’s Courtroom Drama Collects ₹54 Crore Worldwide
Mumbai, April 19: Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh opened in theatres to emotional applause and rave reviews from both audiences and industry insiders. Featuring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, the historical courtroom drama has struck a chord with viewers for its compelling narrative and powerhouse performances.
Set against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the film follows C. Sankaran Nair (played by Akshay Kumar) as he takes on the British Empire in a tense legal showdown with Neville McKinley (R Madhavan), the Crown’s defense. The film’s courtroom exchanges and gripping emotional depth have left audiences deeply moved.
“It’s a great film that left me in tears. Akshay paaji ki bahut acchi film hai,” said a fan in Mumbai.
Another added, “Akshay sir’s performance gave me goosebumps — it’s his best in a long time.”
Viewers praised the first half as especially engaging and called the film “well-researched, well-written, and powerful in every scene.” In Amritsar, audience members highlighted the film’s emotional resonance and historical importance.
“More such films should be made,” said local viewer Kuldeep.
Gurpreet Singh echoed, “Everyone must watch this.”
The film is also receiving accolades from Bollywood celebrities. Vicky Kaushal, after attending a special screening, took to Instagram:

Filmmaker Raj Mehta also praised the film, calling it a “gooseflesh-inducing” cinematic experience and lauding Akshay Kumar’s “roaring yet restrained” performance, along with R Madhavan’s and Ananya Panday’s strong portrayals.
“@karanstyagi, what a grand directorial debut!” he added, thanking producer Karan Johar for backing such a bold film.
Director Karan Singh Tyagi, making his debut, is being celebrated for his sensitive handling of one of India’s darkest historical chapters. The music, overseen by Azeem Dayani, was also praised as an “audio masterpiece.”
Ahead of release, Akshay Kumar urged fans not to miss the opening 10 minutes of the film, calling it “the most important part” as it establishes the emotional intensity of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy.
The Mumbai premiere saw a glittering guest list including Kajol, Tiger Shroff, Manish Malhotra, Dino Morea, Raj & DK, Saqib Saleem, and others, all praising the film’s message and execution.
