Kevin Hart to Headline Comedy ‘72 Hours’ Directed by Tim Story for Netflix-Sony Collaboration

The film follows a middle-aged exec caught in a Gen-Z bachelor party whirlwind—marking another major comedy team-up between Hart and director Tim Story.

Washington [US], March 25: Kevin Hart is back with another big-screen comedy, this time in ‘72 Hours’, a wild bachelor party film directed by longtime collaborator Tim Story. The project is being developed under a Sony-Netflix partnership and is now considered a priority release for the streaming giant, according to Deadline.

Written by Matt Mider & Kevin Burrows, alongside Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the film follows a 40-year-old corporate executive—played by Hart—whose attempt to revive his failing career goes hilariously off-track after he’s accidentally added to a group chat for a weekend bachelor bash with a bunch of twentysomethings.

The film is produced by Hartbeat, Davis Entertainment, Counterbalance, and Will Packer Productions, with Ross Fanger serving as executive producer.

Davis Entertainment originally championed the script, but the project gained major momentum when Hart signed on. With Tim Story, the director behind hits like Ride Along and Think Like A Man, joining the team, 72 Hours has shot up Netflix’s priority list.

This marks the latest entry in Hart’s comedy empire on Netflix. He’s already headlined popular projects on the platform including Kevin Hart & Chris Rock: Headliners Only, The Roast of Tom Brady, and Lift, which topped Netflix’s global chart with 32.8 million views and 58.5 million hours watched in just three days. His 2022 film Me Time also debuted at #1.

As for Tim Story, the filmmaker has directed 11 major studio films, with eight opening at #1 during their debut weekends. His filmography includes Tom & Jerry, both Ride Along films, Barbershop, and Fantastic Four, with total box office revenue surpassing $1 billion—a milestone that made him the first Black director to achieve this feat, per Deadline.

With Hart and Story reuniting, and Netflix backing the chaos, 72 Hours promises to be a raucous blend of generational comedy and over-the-top party madness.
