May 12, 2025: Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey has officially joined the cast of the upcoming conspiracy action-thriller The Awakening, directed by Matt Routledge, according to Variety.
The film—announced last year—is being launched at Cannes 2025 by Pia Patatian’s Cloud9 Worldwide. It stars an ensemble cast including Peter Stormare, Alice Eve, Steve Berkoff, Julian Glover, Matt Hookings, and former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall.
Plot and Production

The Awakening follows protagonists Jason (played by Tinto) and Rebecca (Alice Eve), as they unravel a dark global conspiracy. Their pursuit of the truth leads them into a labyrinth of secrets and danger, turning their mission into a suspense-filled race against time.
The film is currently in post-production and is produced by Camelot Films, with financial backing from both Camelot and Tinto. The screenplay was co-written by Tinto, Matt Routledge, and Matt Hookings.
Spacey’s Return to Cinema
This project represents another step in Kevin Spacey’s gradual return to acting, following his acquittal in a 2023 UK trial. He was found not guilty of all nine charges, including multiple counts of sexual assault, related to his time as artistic director at London’s Old Vic Theatre (2004–2013).
Since his acquittal, Spacey has been cast in several European projects, including Control and Peter Five Eight. His casting in The Awakening signals a cautious but notable re-entry into higher-profile productions.
