Krysten Ritter Ready And Excited To Return To Her Jessica Jones Character For MCU
December 17, 2024: Krysten Ritter is gearing up for her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), reprising her iconic role as Jessica Jones. The actress, best known for her portrayal of the tough, sharp-witted ex-superhero-turned-private investigator, expressed her excitement upon hearing Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, speak at the D23 Brazil Expo about the possibility of bringing Jessica Jones back into the fold.
Ritter’s reaction to Winderbaum’s comments was enthusiastic, stating during an interview for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, “Brad Winderbaum said that? That’s really exciting to hear. Isn’t he the guy who makes the call?” She added playfully, “Come on, Brad! Let’s get it going. Let’s do it. I’ll be ready.”
The Jessica Jones series, which ran for three seasons on Netflix, was a part of Marvel’s original Defenders saga, which also included Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. The show was praised for its gritty tone and Ritter’s standout performance, making her one of the MCU’s most beloved characters. After Netflix ended its partnership with Marvel following the launch of Disney+, the future of the Defenders characters remained uncertain. However, with the recent revival of Daredevil through Daredevil: Born Again, it seems that the MCU is looking to breathe new life into these characters, with Jessica Jones likely returning to this larger universe.
Ritter has continued to thrive in her career, with notable roles in series such as Gilmore Girls, Breaking Bad, Veronica Mars, and Love & Death, along with appearances in films like El Camino, What Happens in Vegas, and Confessions of a Shopaholic. Her return to the MCU would be a welcome development for fans who have long hoped to see the character of Jessica Jones revived on the big screen or in a new MCU series.
Meanwhile, Marvel’s big screen plans are also heating up, particularly with Avengers: Doomsday, which is confirmed to bring back Chris Evans in an undisclosed role. The Russo Brothers will direct this highly anticipated film, with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson continuing his journey as Captain America. While Evans’ role is still under wraps, there’s speculation that he may return as Steve Rogers, though possibly not in the same capacity he once did.
The MCU is clearly embracing its expansive multiverse and the return of beloved characters like Jessica Jones and Steve Rogers, setting the stage for even more exciting crossovers and storylines in the years to come.
