Kuberaa Box Office Day 2: Dhanush’s Beggar Act Rakes in ₹30.75 Crore, Surpasses Suriya’s Retro
June 22, 2025: Dhanush’s gritty drama Kuberaa is showing promising momentum at the box office, collecting an impressive ₹30.75 crore net in India over its first two days. Helmed by Sekhar Kammula and starring Rashmika Mandanna, Nagarjuna, and Jim Sarbh, the multilingual film recorded ₹16 crore on Saturday, building on its opening day tally of ₹14.75 crore. While the growth has been modest, the film’s Telugu version is leading the charge with a noteworthy 66.19% occupancy rate.
Telugu Version Dominates
The Telugu-speaking regions have emerged as Kuberaa’s strongest market, outperforming its Tamil version significantly. Despite being a pan-India release, the film has clearly found its core base down South, particularly in the Telugu belt where Dhanush’s unconventional role as a beggar has resonated deeply with audiences.
Comparison With Recent Releases
Kuberaa’s two-day earnings of ₹30.75 crore puts it ahead of Suriya’s Retro, which earned ₹27 crore, and even Dhanush’s own recent release Raayan, which stood at ₹27.04 crore. The film is pacing steadily toward a solid weekend figure with encouraging word-of-mouth and social media traction.
OTT Rights Sold for ₹50 Crore
In addition to its theatrical success, Kuberaa has also made headlines for its massive post-theatrical OTT deal. Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights for ₹50 crore, making it one of the largest OTT deals for a South Indian film in recent times. This digital interest further cements Kuberaa’s marketability beyond the big screen.

Censor Cuts and Viral Fan Moment
The film underwent 19 scene trims before receiving a UA certificate from the CBFC, with the final cut shorter by 13 minutes and 41 seconds. That hasn’t deterred fan excitement — Dhanush’s appearance at Chennai’s Rohini Silver Screens for the FDFS with son Linga caused a frenzy. Videos of fans climbing walls and cheering the star went viral, with Dhanush visibly emotional amid the thunderous applause.
What Lies Ahead?
With strong regional hold and positive reviews, Kuberaa appears poised for a robust weekend performance. The real test will come midweek, when weekday dips typically occur. But if current trends hold, Kuberaa could easily cross ₹50 crore in its first weekend and emerge as one of Dhanush’s biggest commercial hits in recent years.
