June 23, 2025 | Business Today Desk
Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna’s latest socio-political thriller Kuberaa continues its upward trajectory at the Indian box office. As of its first Sunday, the film has grossed ₹48.50 crore in India, and is well on track to overtake the lifetime collection of Dhanush’s last hit, Captain Miller (₹58.08 crore).
Directed by Sekhar Kammula, Kuberaa opened with ₹14.75 crore on Day 1, followed by ₹16.5 crore on Day 2 and an estimated ₹17.25 crore on Day 3. Riding on strong footfall, particularly in Telugu-speaking regions, the film’s domestic collection is expected to breach the ₹50 crore mark early this week.
The film recorded solid weekend occupancy, with Telugu shows logging 70.56% overall on Sunday. Evening shows peaked at 80.19%, reaffirming its regional stronghold.
In comparison, Tamil shows had 34.18% occupancy (evening: 42.90%) while Hindi shows saw 18.80% (evening: 27.52%), showing modest traction beyond southern markets.
At the film’s success event, actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, who plays a pivotal role, revealed his personal connection with the narrative. “This is Deepak’s film, yes, but the story and characters revolve around my arc. Screen time doesn’t matter to me—it’s the impact that counts,” he stated.
Kuberaa, released in theatres on June 20, explores the story of a beggar entangled in a sinister web orchestrated by a former CBI officer and a corrupt CEO. The film features a powerful ensemble cast including Dhanush, Rashmika Mandanna, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Jim Sarbh, Dalip Tahil, Bagavathi Perumal, Sunaina Yella, and Hareesh Peradi. The soundtrack, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, has also added to the film’s appeal.
While Kuberaa debuted quietly alongside Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, it has steadily emerged as a box office force, driven by audience word of mouth and critical praise for its performances and storytelling.

If current trends continue, Kuberaa is poised to cross ₹60 crore domestically within its first week, setting up a potential blockbuster status. All eyes are now on weekday performance and how well it can sustain beyond the initial hype.
