Monalisa Bhosle rejects ‘love jihad’ claims; BJP leader calls marriage “not normal”
March 17, 2026: Monalisa Bhosle, popularly known as the “Kumbh Mela girl”, has married actor Farman Khan in a ceremony held at Nainar Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The wedding, conducted as per Hindu rituals and under police presence, triggered controversy online, with some social media users labelling it as “love jihad.” The couple later addressed the issue in a press conference, firmly rejecting the allegations.
The debate intensified after Nazia Ilahi Khan termed the marriage “not normal” and alleged it was a case of “proper love jihad.” She claimed that provisions of the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 were violated and raised concerns about misuse of Hindu traditions. She also made allegations about possible links to the banned Popular Front of India, calling for intervention by authorities.
Responding to the claims, Monalisa stated that she married out of her own choice and that the ceremony followed Hindu customs without any religious conversion. Farman also dismissed the allegations, saying religion was never a barrier in their relationship and that both have retained their respective faiths. The controversy continues to draw attention as debates intensify on social media and political circles.
