Kunal Kemmu Opens Up About 'Robbery' Attempt Years Ago After Saif Ali Khan's Stabbing Incident
February 22, 2025: Actor Kunal Kemmu recently spoke out about a traumatic incident that affected his family after his brother-in-law, Saif Ali Khan, was attacked by an intruder at his home last month. Despite the horrific nature of the attack, Kunal opened up about a similar experience he had 12 years ago, shedding light on how such incidents have shaped his views on personal safety.
Kunal recalled an incident from 2011 when a burglary took place at the Khar flat of his then-girlfriend (now wife) Soha Ali Khan. The couple had heard unusual sounds, and Kunal discovered the burglar attempting to break into the residence. He bravely confronted the intruder, overpowered him, and handed him over to the police.
Reflecting on the more recent attack on Saif Ali Khan, Kunal explained that while these incidents are shocking, they don’t necessarily mean that Mumbai is an unsafe city. He stressed that such occurrences are isolated and rare. “These are those one or two incidents that will happen. We’ll have to be careful. You can’t say that the city is safe, so I can lie down in the street with jewellery, and nothing’s going to happen,” he said, further emphasizing the importance of being cautious and protecting oneself and family.
Kunal, who has lived in Mumbai for years, made it clear that while these incidents are unfortunate, they are not reflective of the city’s overall safety. “Bombay still continues to be a very safe city to live in. These freak incidents happen everywhere,” he added.
In his reflections on the Saif Ali Khan attack, Kunal noted that the intruder had no idea whose house he was entering and that the burglary escalated when the attacker resorted to violence. Kunal also pointed out that the nature of such incidents was unpredictable, and often people don’t anticipate what might happen when an intruder breaks in.
Kunal stressed the importance of taking safety precautions at every step of life, comparing it to being cautious when riding a bike. He said, “It’s like you get into a road accident. Not necessarily was it always your fault, but sometimes it just happens.” He also noted that people need to be vigilant in their security measures and emphasized that while it’s essential to stay safe, it’s also important not to overprotect oneself to the point of losing quality of life.
As a result of the recent incidents, Kunal said that everyone in his residential building was re-evaluating their security systems. “I think everybody’s learned from this. I know that it’s become a chatter in all societies around the buildings,” he said, underlining the need for better precautions.
On a personal note, Kunal expressed that he has always been proactive about safety. “I have genuinely always kind of taken all the precautions that I possibly think are there,” he shared. He also encouraged people to invest in good safety systems, even if it’s expensive, explaining that it’s always better to be safe than sorry when such systems are needed.
In closing, Kunal added, “Some people take this to the other level. You don’t need to live in jail, at the end of the day, because then there’s no quality of life.” He stressed that balance is key—one should take necessary precautions without compromising the joy of living freely.
Kunal Kemmu, who is known for his roles in films like Golmaal 3, Golmaal Again, and Lootcase, has always been a strong advocate for personal safety, a sentiment he continues to share in light of these unsettling events.
